Headaches are one of the main reasons patents seek chiropractic care along with other complimentary and alternative treatments. Dr Barbery (Chiropractor), having completed his Master of Public Health, has had a paper he co-authored, accepted in the prestigious Headache, The Journal of Headache and Face Pain.
The Journal is the official publication of the American Headache Society and publishes original articles on all aspects of head and face pain. The paper is the first critical review of literature on the use of Complimentary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) for those suffering from headache and migraine.
It highlights the substantial use of CAM amongst those with headache and migraine and shows that CAM is often used in conjunction with conventional medicine. Due to the substantial CAM use among people with headache and migraine, health care practitioners should inquire and discuss possible CAM use with their patients. Health care practitioners should also pay attention to the possible adverse effects of CAM or interactions between CAM and conventional medical treatments among those headache and migraine.
The paper does not detail patient disclosure of treatments to health practitioners, however, it would be helpful to all health practitioners if patients inform their health practitioners of all CAM and conventional treatments they have had or having during their consultations.ine sufferers.
